Trade and the EU Single market
Trade solutions to promote public policy goals (health, environment, human rights etc.)
The EU has been at the forefront of innovative solutions and efforts to protect important values via trade measures. These values include human rights, peace, and environmental protection. Recently, the EU has withdrawn the Most Favoured Nation Treatment status for Russia following the attack on Ukraine, it has undertaken ongoing efforts to negotiate a scheme imposing Carbon Border Adjustment Measures, and it has proposed introducing a trade ban on products made with forced labour. These initiatives are testament to the leading role that the EU is playing on these issues at the global level. Research, training, and events on these and related topics aim to provide more visibility for such important initiatives.
Below there are examples of the Fellows' engagement in this area through research, publications, and events.
