Data protection, ROL and digital technologies

We are living in an age of profound technological advancements. The opportunities provided by Artificial intelligence (AI) - the development of systems that simulate human intelligence - has the capacity to transform sectors of the economy and public services. This includes areas of considerable human rights significance such as healthcare, education, employment, and justice (including criminal justice). It is essential that such transformations take place in a framework characterised by appropriate regulation, safeguards, and accountability mechanisms. The programme of research and events in this area focuses on understanding the challenges posed and identifying the elements of an appropriate regulatory framework.

Below there are examples of the Fellows' engagement in this area through research, publications, and events.
