The Law on Secured Transactions: The Need for Reform

On 31 May 2006 the British Institute of International and Comparative Law held a workshop on the law on secured transactions. The issues were tackled by an outstanding panel of distinguished international experts.

The Workshop was chaired by Professor Ross Cranston QC, and the topic was introduced by Professor Philip Wood, followed by Spiros Bazinas, the UNCITRAL Senior Legal Officer and Secretary of the Working Group VI on Security Interests, who presented the UNCITRAL Draft Legislative Guide. Frederique Dahan, Senior Counsel at EBRD reported on EBRD experience and findings in Central and Eastern Europe. Professor Herbert Kronke, Secretary General of UNIDROIT, introduced the Cape Town Convention before Professor Michael Bridge, Dean of UCL, together with Professor Hugh Beale QC FBA, closed the Workshop with a discussion of the Law Commission's proposals in this field.
