About the event

The atrocities of 9/11 were a graphic reminder to the world of the damage that can be done by civil aircraft as result of terrorist acts. This seminar provided a timely consideration of the convention proposed by the International Civil Aviation Organisation to provide compensation for such events, which was the subject of an international diplomatic conference held in April-May 2009.

The seminar considered the existing mechanisms providing remedies for aerial terrorism, the road to ICAO's draft convention and the terms of the draft itself. It then considered the proposals contained in the draft convention from a number of different perspectives. These topics where addressed by a distinguished panel of speakers, with time provided to debate the issues arising.
