BIICL Researcher Programme
We are not planning on running the programme in 2021 due to the pandemic
BIICL has established a rolling programme of paid Researcher roles for those in the early stages of a research career in international and comparative law.
Posts are offered on a part-time basis (0.8 FTE/28 hours per week) for a ten month period. Opportunities are usually available across BIICL's main research areas including Public International Law, the Rule of Law, Competition Law, International Economic Law and Private International Law. All Researchers are paid at the London Living Wage rate. Researchers are each assigned to a Supervisor in their legal area but are also expected to work across other areas, when needed.
Researchers Key Skills
• Assisting in the coordination and organisation of research activities;
• Contributing to the production of high quality research in their areas including, where appropriate, assisting with desk-based research, literature reviews, data analysis, drafting of proposals and submissions, report writing and drafting of articles, social media content etc.
• Assisting in the management and co-ordination of events;
• Attending meetings with external groups or partners, including government, legal profession and NGOs; and
• Working as part of a team with other researchers
• Well-rounded knowledge of the relevant legal areas at national (in the UK or comparative context) and international levels.
Education and experience:
• LLM or equivalent degree or relevant work experience in an NGO, international organisation, government department or private practice.
• Exceptional candidates with a first degree in law or a related subject will also be considered.
• Some prior experience in research posts would be of benefit.
Research and drafting skills:
• Ability to analyse complex and detailed materials and draw conclusions in a clear and precise manner.
• Proficient in conducting research through electronic means and resources.
• Very high level of proficiency in English.
• Good administrative, IT and organisational skills;
• Collaborative, collegial and articulate team member.
