Pete joined BIICL as Chief Operating Officer in January 2021. He is responsible for the operational management and leadership of the Institute, and works closely with the Director and trustees to develop and implement BIICL's strategy.
Before joining BIICL, Pete worked as Director of Finance & Operations in the Nuffield Department of Medicine at Oxford University. He led the management and support teams of four internationally leading research institutes tackling global health issues ranging from population scale genetics to the development of vaccines for emerging diseases, including the development and manufacturing of the Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
Pete started his career in the NHS as a Graduate Management Trainee, and spent eight years on the front line managing hospital services in Oxford, North Cumbria, and Birmingham.
Outside of work, Pete enjoys hiking and mountaineering, running, scuba diving, powerboating, and travelling to watch Bradford City football matches.
Pete holds a first class degree in Modern History from Oxford University, an MSc in Health Care Management from Birmingham University, and a CIMA Diploma in Management Accounting.
