Sir Jonathan Jones KCB KC (Hon)

Biography

Jonathan Jones joined BIICL as Honorary Senior Fellow in 2024. From 2014 to 2020 he was Treasury Solicitor and Permanent Secretary of the Government Legal Department - the most senior legal official in the UK government, and held other senior legal posts in the Home Office, the Attorney General's Office and HM Treasury. From 2021-2026 he was a Senior Consultant in constitutional and public law at Linklaters LLP. Jonathan is also a Senior Fellow of the Institute for Government, a Visiting Professor at Durham Law School, and a Master of the Bench of Middle Temple. He is a member of the UK Governance Project, whose report in 2024 recommended improvements to standards of conduct in public life and governance in the UK. He regularly writes and speaks on current legal and constitutional topics.
