Professor Dan Plesch

Biography

Professor Dan Plesch joined BIICL in February 2025 as a Visiting Research Fellow. Dan is Professor of Diplomacy and Strategy at SOAS University of London and a Door Tenant at 9 Bedford Row Chambers. He is an international relations scholar and historian, focused on the contemporary application of the historical origins of international criminal law.

Dan is working with BIICL on an exciting new study of previously classified archives of the United Nations War Crimes Commission (UNWCC), a body that operated between 1943 and 1948 to assist Allied States to bring thousands of prosecutions against Axis personnel, including Hitler, for crimes committed during WWII and the Holocaust.

He is the author of a book on the UNWCC, Human Rights After Hitler, and this research has been widely reported in international media, including in a Netflix documentary and on US National Public Radio.
