Professional Development Training programme Spring 2017

New dates are announced for our professional development courses during spring 2017.

These courses are ideal for those in the early and middle years of legal practice, those moving legal practice areas, anyone planning to enter a career in commercial litigation and students who are studying for a postgraduate degree which includes aspects of private international law, dispute resolution or arbitration.

Public International Law in PracticeShort Course - 12 hours CPDDate: 3 and 4 April 2017Course Lead: Professor Robert McCorquodale, Institute Director.

"Public International Law in Practice" is a dynamic course of applied public international law. A two-day programme it is focused on current developments in public international law and their application in national and international litigation, in governmental and international policy-making and in international legal and diplomatic practice.

Led by many of the Institute's leading researchers and practitioners, the course is designed to give a concise introduction to key issues across a broad range of areas of public international law - from the nature of international law to international resolution of disputes, from human rights to international investment law.

The Rule of Law: From Principles to PracticeShort Course - 6 hours CPD Date: 5 April 2017 Course Lead: Bingham Centre for the Rule of Law

The rule of law has universal relevance for all involved in the law, justice system and legal policy. This innovative course introduces participants to using the rule of law as a practical tool for legal work in a wide range of areas both within the UK and internationally. When you attend this course, you will explore the different elements of the rule of law in concrete terms, thinking about how rule of law principles apply in a wide variety of areas, and discovering how to draw on the rule of law as an invaluable principle and framework. It will be conducted as interactive discussions, with case studies and practical examples, as applied learning.
