Call for Abstracts for Islamic Law and its Implementation in Asia and The Middle-East

Islamic Law and its Implementation in Asia and The Middle-East will take place on 6 October 2017 at the British Institute of International & Comparative Law.

In conjunction with the British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL) the editors of the Asian Yearbook of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (AYBHRHL) invite submissions for the above conference. The conference focuses on the topic of Islamic law and the implementation of Islamic law in Asia and the Middle East.

The conference themes include inter alia the following areas:

  • Constitutional laws of Middle-Eastern and South-Asia (and the role of Islamic law)
  • Islamic family laws (and implementation of these laws)
  • Islamic laws and human rights laws
  • Islamic finance and Implementation issues within Asia and the Middle-East
  • Islamic laws and gender rights
  • Application of Islamic laws and implications on religious and sexual minorities
  • Implementation of Islamic criminal laws in the Middle-East and Asia
  • The application of International laws and Islamic law

Islamic Law appears as the featured theme for volume: II of AYBHRHL (2018). AYBHRHL is published annually by Brill-Nijhoff and is edited by Professor Javaid Rehman (Editor-in-Chief) Dr Ayesha Shahid (Associate Editor) and Dr Meryl Dickinson (Assistant Editor). The Yearbook invites submission on a wide variety of human rights and humanitarian issues including those focusing on contemporary socio-economic, legal and political developments impacting upon human rights and humanitarian law within Asia and globally. The Yearbook also welcomes submissions based on theoretical perspectives on human rights and humanitarian law with specific relevance to Asia.

Selected papers from the 7 October conference will be published in volume: II AYBHRHL (2018).

Abstracts (for conference papers) should be no more than 500 words in length and should be submitted to Assistant Editor AYBHR, Dr Meryl Dickinson at mdickinson@brookes.ac.uk.

The deadline for submission of abstracts is 31 January 2017.
