Bingham Centre Founder honoured in Brazil

At an international conference in Brazil last week, at which he was speaking, Sir Jeffrey Jowell KCMG QC, the founding Director of the Bingham Centre, was awarded the honour of Comendador da Ordem National do Cruzeiro do Sul (Commander of the National Order of the Southern Cross). The award was presented to Sir Jeffrey by the President of Brazil, Michel Temer.

The President's website describes the award as "the highest order that can be awarded to a non-citizen". The citation, given by Supreme Court Justice (and former Chief Justice) Gilmar Mendez, stated that the honour was "for [his] contribution to constitutionalism and the rule of law internationally".
