Professional Development Courses October 2016

A group of three professional development courses which are ideal for those in the early and middle years of legal practice. Particularly helpful to those moving legal practice areas and anyone planning to enter a career in commercial litigation. Also suitable for students who are studying for a postgraduate degree which includes aspects of private international law, dispute resolution or arbitration.

Introduction to the Rule of Law

Short Course - 6.5 hours CPD

Course Lead: Bingham Centre for the Rule of Law

The rule of law has universal relevance for all involved in the law, justice system and legal policy. This innovative course introduces participants to using the rule of law as a practical tool for legal work in a wide range of areas both within the UK and internationally. When you attend this course, you will explore the different elements of the rule of law in concrete terms, thinking about how rule of law principles apply in a wide variety of areas, and discovering how to draw on the rule of law as an invaluable principle and framework. It will be conducted as interactive discussions, with case studies and practical examples, as applied learning.

Rule of Law Challenges in Burundi - the inside view with Gervais Rufyikiri

This event will provide participants with insights on the practical challenges to the application of the rule of law in Burundi. Drawing on his years of experience in government, Mr. Rufyikiri will expand on issues such as corruption, access to justice and development among others

Public International Law in Practice

Public International Law in Practice is a dynamic course of applied public international law. This programme is focused on current developments in public international law and their application in national and international litigation, in governmental and international policy-making and in international legal and diplomatic practice.

Cross-border Dispute Resolution

Cross-border dispute resolution is a part of the practice of almost every commercial lawyer and knowledge in this area is essential. This programme is focused on current developments and strategies in cross-border dispute resolution. This course is unique in that it introduces participants to a variety of issues arising in cross-border cases in a concise and engaging way. It includes the core elements of dispute resolution but also special areas such as collective litigation.
