Tribute to Sir Jeremy Lever KCMG KC
We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Sir Jeremy Lever KCMG KC on 25 August 2025.
Sir Jeremy was a steadfast and long-time supporter of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL). Serving as a member of the Council of Management from 1987 to 2004, and as part of the Executive Committee guiding the Institute's direction from the late 1980s onwards, his contributions were invaluable. His expertise, particularly in competition law, enriched countless discussions, lectures, and debates at BIICL.
Beyond his intellectual contributions, Sir Jeremy was deeply committed to supporting the people behind the Institute - staff, committee members, and colleagues alike. His efforts in securing crucial support from the legal community during critical moments were instrumental in ensuring BIICL's continued success.
Knighted for his outstanding contributions to European Law, Sir Jeremy was recognised as a leading scholar and practitioner, serving as Senior Dean at All Souls College, Oxford and as a distinguished advocate in EU and competition law. His network of colleagues and friends across Europe and beyond - including eminent judges, practitioners, and academics - brought immeasurable benefits to the Institute and its work.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude for all that Sir Jeremy did for BIICL. His legacy will endure, and he will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time of loss.
