BIICL and ISMS contribute to Deposit Insurance Scheme
The British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL) and the Institute for Small and Micro States (ISMS) contributed to the development of a Deposit Insurance Regime in the OECS
Dr Nicole Pierce, Associate Researcher at BIICL and International Trade Law academic at Goldsmith's Department of Law, University of London, has successfully led an eclectic team of international experts in the review of the Draft Deposit Insurance Model Bill which was produced by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) to underpin the region's banking framework. It is expected that the Model Bill will facilitate the development of a deposit insurance corporation in the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union
Dr. Pierce was invited by the ECCB to review and provide comments on the Model Bill, on behalf of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL) and the Institute for Small and Micro States (ISMS).
The review was conducted by international experts and law reform specialists in Deposit Insurance, Tax and Legislative Drafting. The review team comprised Professor Dalvinder Singh (University of Warwick, and Advisory Panel Member, International Association of Deposit Insurers); Professor Rodrigo Olivares-Caminal (Queen Mary University of London); Dr. Paul Omar (INSOL Europe; Advocate and Solicitor, Malaya); Dr Samantha Jn. Paul-Samuel (Legislative Drafter; Attorney-at-law, St Lucia); Jivaan Bennett (Senior Associate (Attorney-at-Law and Solicitor) and Head of Caribbean Group, Linklaters, UK; Co-Deputy Director (Caribbean), ISMS).
