Judge Heidar elected president of the International Tribunal of the Law of the Sea

BIICL is delighted to hear that Judge Thomas Heidar has been elected president of the International Tribunal of the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) and extends its warmest congratulations to Judge Heidar. 

Judge Heidar is an Honorary Senior Fellow at BIICL and a longtime supporter of work on the Law of the Sea. He delivers lectures on our Law of the Sea Short Course and contributes to our events and research in the area. He has been a member of the Tribunal since 1 October 2014 and Vice-President of the same since October 2020. Previously he has Legal Adviser at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iceland.
