Eve Salomon CBE announced as new chair of trustees at BIICL

Today we are delighted to announce the appointment of Eve Salomon CBE as chair of the board of trustees at BIICL

Eve is an international legal expert who has worked across the world to improve legal standards which safeguard human rights and democratic freedoms. She will take up her role at BIICL from 1 July 2023.

A solicitor by background, Eve is an international expert on media law and regulation. She has served as a Commissioner for the Press Complaints Commission, the Gambling Commission and was a member of the Better Regulation Commission.

Her international practice has included advising governments around the world on how to align their laws with international legal and normative standards particularly in the broadcasting and digital sectors. Eve has previously chaired the boards of RICS Regulation, Privacy International and the Internet Watch Foundation.

Most recently she was chair of trustees at the Horniman Museum and Gardens where she devised and led the museum in its process to return their collection of Benin bronzes. The Horniman was the first UK government-funded museum to take this step. Eve was awarded a CBE for services to arts and heritage when she left the organisation.

Eve's expertise and knowledge will help BIICL expands its comparative legal work on a wide range of cutting-edge topics such as Artificial Intelligence & Data Worlds, Business & Human Rights and Cultural Heritage.

Eve Salomon said: 'I am very proud to have been appointed chair of the board of trustees and to work with BIICL to build the legal resources needed to apply legal principles to help solve the difficult, big issues of our day.'

Commenting on the appointment Professor Spyros Maniatis, Director of BIICL said 'I am delighted to welcome Eve as our new chair of trustees at a time when BIICL is developing an ambitious strategic plan to help tackle some of the most pressing challenges the world faces. The Institute aims to be a global hub for impactful comparative legal research.'
