Former BIICL Director joins UN working group on business and human rights

Robert McCorquodale appointed to UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights

BIICL is delighted that the United Nations Human Rights Council has appointed former BIICL Director Professor Robert McCorquodale to be a member of the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights. This is an expert body of 5 people from around the globe, appointed for 6 years each, who seek to provide guidance and clarification in this field for companies, states and civil society. They can also take some complaints and do country visits. It is a part-time role, with most meetings and consultations being in Geneva.

Robert said that it is an honour and a privilege to be appointed - after a long process - and looks forward to the challenge. He added that he knows that the research, training and events he did at BIICL, was crucial to his appointment.

The BIICL Business and Human Rights team, Lise Smit and Irene Pietropaoli, warmly congratulates Robert on this well-deserved appointment.
