Institute congratulates Sir Daniel Bethlehem QC

The Institute congratulates Daniel Bethlehem, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office's Legal Adviser, on the award of a knighthood for his services to international law.

Sir Daniel Bethlehem QC was born in London and raised South Africa. He studied at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg before returning to England to study law at Bristol and Cambridge. He was a barrister at 20 Essex Street Chambers, has lectured at the London School of Economics and was later head of the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law. He has been Legal Adviser at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office since 2006. He is a member of the Institute's Advisory Council.

His knighthood was announced in the Queen's birthday honours list on 12 June 2010.
