Death of BIICL supporter Sir Henry Brooke

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of Sir Henry Brooke who was a long-time supporter of the British Institute for International and Comparative Law and The Bingham Centre for the Rule of Law.

Sir Henry had been a friend of Tom Bingham for over 50 years, following him from Balliol College, Oxford, to Chambers and then on to the Court of Appeal. When it was suggested the Institute marked Lord Bingham's retirement as Chair of the Institute, following 28 years of service, Sir Henry readily agreed to Chair the committee charged with raising funds to establish the Bingham Centre for the Rule of Law.

Following his retirement from the Court of Appeal bench in 2006, Sir Henry continued to be an active campaigner for access to justice. Amongst his many roles, he was President of the Slynn Foundation (until 2015). In this role, he collaborated with the Bingham Centre on projects such as Capacity Building in the Criminal Justice Institutions in the OPTs (West Bank) in 2014.

The Institute has lost a great friend and our condolences go out to his family and friends.
