The British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL) is seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to lead the Institute as the new Director. BIICL conducts high quality research, seminars, publications and other activities around the world across the broad range of public international law, private international law, comparative law and the rule of law. This is an exciting and high profile opportunity to build upon the Institute's outstanding history and reputation as one of the most respected independent legal research institutes in the world.
As Director, the successful applicant will have responsibility for the development and implementation of a clear vision and the overall strategic management of BIICL, working closely with its Board of Trustees. S/he will combine experience of leadership with an extensive track record of high quality research in one of BIICL's main areas (public international law, private international law and comparative law). S/he will have experience of interacting with legal practitioners, academics and others worldwide, ideally combined with some legal practice expertise. As well as providing research leadership, the Director will need to demonstrate excellent communication and advocacy skills, with the ability to express ideas and concepts clearly to diverse audiences and to engage in fundraising and other income generation.
