New BIICL report on enforcing against unfair trading in food chain

Project Director: Philip Marsden

Research Fellow: Justine Stefanelli

In January 2013, the European Commission produced a Green Paper calling on stakeholders to give evidence on the existence and nature of unfair commercial practices in the retail supply chain, with a view to issuing a Commission plan of action before autumn 2014.

BIICL was asked by Traidcraft to feed into this process by producing a report which demonstrates how an effective enforcement mechanism arranged at the EU level might be established and operate.

The report focuses on the food supply chain. It recommends that the EU should establish a network of national enforcement mechanisms that monitor and enforce against unfair trading practices in the food supply chain, according to principles and procedures prescribed by the EU through legislation.

The report is available for download in PDF format here.

This report follows on from a report BIICL published in 2012 on Models of Enforcement for Relations in the Food Supply Chain in Europe.
