What is this event about?
This seminar will examine various issues surrounding fact-finding missions in the human rights context. Topics to be covered include: the circumstances in which fact-finding missions are used; establishing and staffing a mission; practical questions such as the use of interpreters, security arrangements and the relationship with the host government; interviewing vulnerable witnesses; obstacles to the mission; and the contents of ,and possible uses for, the final report. The seminar will also launch a set of guidelines on human rights fact-finding and report writing produced by the International Bar Association and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute.
