Conflict in the Caucasus: Implications for International Legal Order
Event Details
In consideration of the recent conflict in Russia and Georgia and the implications of these events from an international legal perpective, the School of Law at the University of Reading is to host a one-day conference examining this dispute on Wednesday, 15th April 2009, co-sponsored by the Centre for Transnational Law and Justice at the University of Windsor, Canada. The conference will focus in particular on the manner in which international law has dealt (or not dealt) with the conflict, and the implications of the recent events for world order and the rule of law in international affairs.
A number of leading academics with expertise in diverse fields of International Law and International Relations will present papers on a variety of topics, each in the context of the Russia-Georgia dispute. These shall include:

- Human Rights
- Forced Migration
- Self-Determination
- CIS Peacekeeping
- International Organisations
- The Rhetoric of International Law Claims
- The ICJ Provisional Measures Decision

The conference is to take place in Foxhill House at the University of Reading on Wednesday 15th April 2009, with refreshments to be provided. There will be an attendance fee of £5 for students and £10 for non-students.
