The event is a panel discussion on international-level dispute resolution for mass claims / human rights claims. The event was prompted by the publication of Prof Maya Steinitz's book, The Case for an International Court of Civil Justice, which is about the resolution of transnational mass tort claims.
The event will consist of two panels, the first about the resolution of transnational civil mass claims and the second more specifically on the implications of and likely workings of international-level dispute resolution mechanisms for business and human rights claims.
Panelists on the first panel will reflect on challenges set by international civil mass claims in practice and comment on whether an international court of civil justice can adequately address these.
The second panel will consider what an international-level dispute resolution mechanism would mean for access to remedy for corporate human rights abuses. It will consider a proposal for an international tribunal for business and human rights and the zero draft treaty on business and human rights.
