Is Corporate Accountability Possible in Capitalism? A panel discussing Grietje Baars' upcoming book 'The Corporation, Law and Capitalism'

Event Details

Time: 17.30 19.30 (Registration from 17.00)

Venue: British Institute of International and Comparative Law, Charles Clore House, 17 Russell Square, London WC1B 5JP

The speakers on the panel will discuss the demand for corporate accountability in a context where more and more areas of life are organised by, and mediated through corporations, for profit. This increased corporate presence has led to areas of friction where the demand for 'corporate accountability' seeks to address the balance between unbridled capitalism and liveable lives. Corporate accountability efforts take the form of soft and hard law regulation, strategic litigation and occasionally the criminal prosecution of corporate actors. Now that the 'business & human rights' debate comes of age, it is time to take stock.

Is corporate accountability a realistic goal, a Sisyphean challenge or a lucrative fantasy, in corporate capitalism?
