Public International Law in the Courts of the United Kingdom

Event Details

Time: 18:00-19:30 (Registration 17:30)
followed by a drinks reception

Venue: British Institute of International and Comparative Law, Charles Clore House, 17 Russell Square, London WC1B 5JP

Issues of public international law are increasingly being raised in British Courts, highlighting, amongst other things, questions about jurisdiction, the respective roles of the Executive and the courts, and the interaction between international and domestic public law. This event will look at recent cases and how they are likely to influence current and future developments.

Building on their experience and fields of expertise, the panellists will engage with developments in UK courts on issues around human rights and the justiciability of claims based on allegations of UK complicity in international wrongs, particularly in light of State immunity and the act of State doctrine; sources of law with a focus on customary international law; and withdrawal from the European Union.
