BIICL is delighted to welcome Judge Theodor Meron for the Institute's 2026 Weinrebe Event. A distinguished jurist and scholar with an accomplished career in international law, Judge Meron will join Catherine Amirfar, Co-Chair of Debevoise & Plimpton's Public International Law Group, for a wide-ranging conversation about his new book, A Thousand Miracles: From Surviving the Holocaust to Judging Genocide. The book traces his life from surviving the Holocaust as a child through a career as a legal adviser, diplomat, academic and international judge, reflecting on the experiences and ideas that have shaped his engagement with law and justice.

In conversation with Catherine Amirfar, Judge Meron will explore some of the central themes of A Thousand Miracles, including the development of international criminal justice, the work of international courts and tribunals, accountability for genocide and war crimes, and the role and resilience of international institutions of justice. Drawing together personal history and decades of experience in international law, the discussion will offer a distinctive perspective on the evolution of the international legal order and the challenges it faces today.

The Harry Weinrebe Memorial Event is held annually by BIICL to honour philanthropist Harry M Weinrebe, founder of the Dorset Foundation. We are grateful to the Foundation for the generous and longstanding support it has given to the Institute.
