Event Details
With EU Member States in the process of designing CSDDD transposition laws establishing mandatory HREDD process, what it is going to happen in the UK? Already in 2017, the UK Joint Committee on Human Rights proposed that section 7 of the UK Bribery Act could be used for corporate human rights abuses. In 2020, BIICL and Hogan Lovells released a study on the feasibility of such a failure to prevent mechanism for corporate human rights harms. Since then, UK CSOs, trade unions, businesses, and investors have called for a UK 'Business, Human Rights and Environment Act' Last year, Baroness Young of Hornsey introduced the Commercial Organisations and Public Authorities Duty (Human Rights and Environment) Bill to introduce HREDD into UK law. At this roundtable experts will discuss different aspects of the feasibility of a HREDD model in the UK.
The event will take place in person at the BIICL office in Russell Square, London. Online participation can be arranged only if necessary.
