Cultural Heritage Governance: Who Should Participate?

Date: 13 December 2022

Time: 13.00 - 14.00 (UK time)

Venue: Online

Event Details

This year, the International Law Association adopted recommendations pertaining to Participation in Global Cultural Heritage Governance. This was the culmination of four years of work led by Dr Jakubowski and Professor Lixinski and including Committee members from all regions of the world.

This event offers a unique opportunity to hear more about the current challenges in global cultural heritage governance and the latest recommendations on ways to address them. Following a presentation of the work of the ILA Committee on Participation in Global Cultural Heritage Governance by its former Chair and Rapporteur, the discussants will consider its recommendations from different perspectives. For example, the Special Rapporteur in the Field of Cultural Rights will consider them in light of her latest report to the UN General Assembly which focused on sustainable development. The ILA Recommendations will also be discussed in relation to the rights of communities, as well as issues surrounding heritage restitution.

You can access the International Law Association Committee on Participation in Global Cultural Heritage Governance - Final Report (2022) here.
