Human Rights and Diplomacy: British Citizens Detained Abroad

Jointly organised by HRLA and BIICL at this event panel members will explore how human rights protections can be undermined by a state's desire to preserve friendly relations with other states. This tension will be examined with regard to the situation of British nationals detained overseas, in particular the high-profile cases of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe (detained in Iran) and Andy Tsege (previously detained in Ethiopia). The discussion will be followed by a Q & A session and networking.
