Arbitration

Arbitration is a method to resolve disputes outside the courts. The arbitral tribunal decides a dispute by rendering an arbitration awards, which is legally binding on both parties and is enforceable in courts.

BIICL has a reputation for organising high-quality events on arbitration, mediation and other forms of dispute resolution. For many years, the Institute has been co-organising the Annual Review of the Arbitration Act, which brings together judges, leading practitioners and academics working in the area of international arbitration. The speakers discuss the most recent developments related to injunctions and challenges to arbitration awards. BIICL also brings in comparative and international law perspectives the international arbitration discourse, facilitating discussions of practitioners, academics and policy-makers from different countries. The Investment Treaty Forum is a part of the Institute, which facilitated a high-level debate in the area of international investment arbitration.
