In late October 2006, Institute Research Fellow Sergey Ripinsky travelled to the Universidad Externado de Colombia (Bogotá) to give lectures on international investment law and arbitration to local students, academics, legal practitioners and government officials. The two-day programme brought together experts from leading international institutions in order to share their knowledge of relevant legal issues in light of Colombia's continuing negotiations of bilateral and multilateral investment treaties.
Sergey presented lectures on expropriation and on recovery of damages in investor-State disputes. These topics fall within the remit of the Institute's Investment Treaty Forum and its current project on damages in international law. The organisers plan to make this meeting a regular event and have requested the Institute's involvement in future.
