Protection of Legitimate Expectations in International Trade and Investment Law
The importance of the legal concept of the protection of legitimate expectations is growing in international law. As part of the 2006 Annual Conference programme, the Institute held a discussion looking at how the concept the protection of legitimate expectations has developed in public international law, in particular focusing on WTO law and the law of foreign investment, as well as on the experience emerging from domestic legal systems. The Panel was chaired by Professor James Crawford, University of Cambridge; Matrix Chambers and took place under the auspices of the Investment Treaty Forum.
