Prosecutorial Discretion and the Rule of Law
Event Details
Prosecutors exercise discretion in crucially important ways, making decisions about whether a person should be charged with a criminal offence and, if so, what that offence should be. These decisions can be highly controversial, as has been evident in recent times where cases have concerned, for example, assisted suicide, the use of social media, and the actions of journalists, editors and public officials. Where decisions turn on whether it is in the public interest to bring a case to court, the exercise of discretion may be particularly contentious.
The Bingham Centre is delighted to welcome the DPP, Keir Starmer QC, to speak on Prosecutorial Discretion and the Rule of Law. The event will be chaired by Lady Justice Arden.

The British Institute of International and Comparative Law reserves the right to modify or cancel any event if unforeseen circumstances arise. If we cancel an event we shall inform you as soon as possible using the contact details provided to us and offer you a full refund.
Cancellation by you
All cancellations must be made in writing via email to eventsregistration@biicl.org and be no less than one week prior to the event.
Payment for registration will always be required, and must be made prior to the event. If sufficient written notification of cancellation is received, a full refund will be given. If insufficient notice is given, payment for your registration will still be required.
