Event Details

The UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights are applicable across the world in the regulation of the human rights impacts of business activity. Under the Guiding Principles, every government and business has responsibilities, and an effective method of implementing them for business is on a sector-by-sector basis. One of the key sectors in this area, both in terms of the attention paid to its activities and the responses by business, is the oil and gas sector.

At this seminar, expert panelists will discuss the complex challenges that may be faced by business and professionals in the oil and gas sector in relation to human rights. Particular attention will be given to legal and compliance challenges, including issues relating to contracting, transparency and litigation risk. Some of the discussion will be based on a recent publication by the Institute and Clifford Chance, supported by AIPN, in the Journal of World Energy Law and Business.
