The British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL) and the Europa Instituut of the University of Leiden are pleased to announce the 52nd Annual London-Leiden Meeting on Saturday, 29th June 2013. This year's London-Leiden meeting will be held for the first time in Edinburgh, Scotland, and will focus on the 50th anniversary of the landmark case of Van Gend en Loos. Speakers will explore the origins of the case at national level, and the circumstances leading to its hearing before the European Court of Justice. In addition, Judge Koen Lenaerts, Vice President of the Court of Justice of the European Union, will offer a perspective on the direct effect of international law in the Court's case-law of the ECJ in relation to the concept of the rule of law.

All cancellations must be made in writing via email to eventsregistration@biicl.org and be no less than one week prior to the event.

Payment for registration will always be required, and must be made prior to the event. If sufficient written notification of cancellation is received, a full refund will be given. If insufficient notice is given, payment for your registration will still be required.
