What is the event about?

Australia is the only country in the western world without a bill of rights (broadly defined). The Australian government recently announced a National Human Rights Consultation, in which it is encouraging discussion about how Australia should protect human rights.

The Consultation will be looking at three key questions:

1. Which human rights (including corresponding responsibilities) should be protected and promoted?
2. Are there human rights which are currently sufficiently protected and promoted?
3. How could Australia better protect and promote human rights?

The International Section of ALHR has teamed up with the British Institute of International and Comparative Law to organize a half-day roundtable discussion on human rights in Australia and to draw upon lessons learned from the UK and other jurisdictions. The roundtable presents an opportunity to discuss the issues in an open format and to influence government thinking in a different way.

This is an invitation only event.

Jointly organized by
AUSTRALIAN LAWYERS FOR HUMAN RIGHTS (International Section)
AND
BRITISH INSTITUTE OF INTERNATIONAL AND COMPARATIVE LAW
