What Role Do Property Rights Play in Climate Change?

International human rights lawyers have identified a wide variety of human rights that are being, and likely will be, affected by climate change. These rights range from the right to life to the right to water to the right to free movement and residence, as well as many others. Among those rights less prominently discussed in relation to climate change is the right to property. Yet all three regional human rights treaties recognize the right to property in one form or another. This seminar will address the role of property rights in assisting States to mitigate and adapt to climate change in a way that respects other human rights. It will also explore the implications of climate change for existing regional and domestic property rights frameworks.

All cancellations must be made in writing via email to eventsregistration@biicl.org and be no less than one week prior to the event.
Payment for registration will always be required, and must be made prior to the event. If sufficient written notification of cancellation is received, a full refund will be given. If insufficient notice is given, payment for your registration will still be required.
