Event Details

On 13 December 2007 Gordon Brown signed the Lisbon Treaty. Early in 2008 the Treaty will undergo the ratification process in the United Kingdom, and, if successful, the Treaty will come into force on 1 January 2009.

This Conference intends to highlight the parts of the Treaty which are of particular concern to the United Kingdom, and to explore the reasons for and effects of particular Protocols and opt-outs from the UK point of view. Matters such as qualified majority voting, the abolition of the Three Pillar structure, the role of national Parliaments, the role of the European Court of Justice and the protection of fundamental rights will be discussed by distinguished academics, practitioners, judges and MPs.
