Legal Tools for Commonwealth Africa

The overall aims of this project were threefold:

  1. to conduct a comparative study of the application of the death penalty in thirteen Commonwealth African States and to publish the findings. This section of the website contains practical resources, basic country reports, training manual materials and useful links.
  2. Another aim was to create a network of lawyers, judges and other decision-makers involved in the death penalty in the African States.
  3. The second stage, conducted in partnership with the Bar Human Rights Committee, was to distribute the publication and conduct training of both lawyers and judges from the African States, the aim of which was to equip the practitioners with the relevant specialized skills and comparative knowledge required when dealing with the death penalty.
