Competition Law Forum: Joining the Forum

Membership

The Competition Law Forum consists of individuals and organisations with a strategic interest in contributing to the pursuit of excellence in the study, development and application of competition policies.

Forum members are all leaders in their field and include judges, academics, economists, in house counsel, public affairs advisers and lawyers in private practice. Regulators and senior civil servants are, from time to time, invited to participate in Forum meetings.

Benefits of Membership

Members have a direct influence on the agenda of the Forum and are invited to recommend topics for debate in the group. The Competition Law Forum shares the excellent reputation enjoyed by the British Institute of International & Comparative Law for independence, evenhandedness and academic rigour.

More specifcally, members have:

  • the opportunity to participate in an independently run Forum that aims to influence competition law policy, and which provides an arena for ongoing and constructive debate with regulators and other decision-makers;

  • the opportunity to suggest research or other work to be carried out;

  • access to research carried out by the Forum Director and other staff;

  • access to articles, case notes and commentaries via Linex Legal;

  • an invitation to each quarterly Forum meeting and reduced rates to all BIICL organised conferences and workshops relating to competition policy; and

  • the opportunity to recommend guest speakers to be invited to meetings of the Forum.

Costs and Conditions of Membership

  • CLF's aim is to be open to specialists, with all applications being considered by the Board.

  • To guarantee continuity and expertise, membership is for named members only. Members can, if they wish, nominate a colleague of similar standing to represent them on those occasions when they are unable to attend meetings. This alternate representative must be named on the application form. Notice must be given that the representative will attend in place of a member.

  • Membership will cost £3,500 per annum. In order to ensure the viability of the CLF, members will be asked to commit to joining for an initial period of three years. The membership fee for 2008 is payable on joining; fees for subsequent years will be due on an annual rolling membership based on the original joining date.

Please note that while the CLF's aim is to be open to all competition law and policy specialists, the Board reserves the right to refuse entry for whatever reason to any applicant for membership.
