Anna Riddell
Education
Anna Riddell joined BIICL as a Research Fellow in Public International Law in October 2005, following a summer Internship at the Institute. Prior to that she completed the Bar Vocational Course at the Inns of Court School of Law and was called to the Bar by Lincoln's Inn in July 2005. During her BVC year she was a research assistant in competition law to Okeoghene Odudu at King's College London.
She holds an LLM in European Law with Distinction from the University of Exeter (Dissertation - 'The Rule of Reason in EC Competition Law - Is the Debate Really Over?' Summer 2004). As an undergraduate she studied Law at Brasenose College Oxford, spending one summer as an Intern at the Brussels Office of the Law Society.
Role at the Institute
Anna directs the Institute's major study on the "Law of Evidence in International Courts and Tribunals", and has also worked on the "Human Rights and Democratization in Iran" project. She is also involved in several other Institute initiatives, such as organizing the Antarctic Treaty Regime Conference and editing the resulting collection of Conference papers.
Her interests include public international law, european law, and competition law.
She recently attended the International Court of Justice in The Hague to hear witness testimony in the Bosnia Herzegovina v Serbia and Montenegro Genocide case, which is of great interest for the Evidence Project. Interviews with the President of the ICJ and the First Legal Secretary of the Court also proved fruitful and she will be making a second visit to interview the Judges of the Court on the issue of the rules of evidence.
